Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell had their sparkling teeth out in a rowdy opening to the X-Factor live shows on Saturday night.

The judges took opposing stances when it came to providing feedback on the performance of all-girl group, Kandy Rain.

Cheryl got her gnashers out first, criticising the girls for donning provocative outfits and suggesting they should have worn something more demure and focused on their singing, considering the girls had previously said they wanted to get away from their pole-dancing past.

But Simon, who accused Cheryl of having performed ”practically half-naked in the past” retorted: ”You’re fun, you’re trying to make it in the music business. Good luck to you.”
When asked by Cheryl if he’d give the girls a record deal, Simon answered: “Yeah I’d give them a shot.”
“I bet you would,” replied Cheryl.

It was all white smiles again later in the evening though, as Cheryl presented her birthday gift to Simon – a white v-neck t-shirt emblazoned with the slogan ‘I love Girls Aloud’. Earlier in the week, Cheryl had joked about what she’d buy the music mogul for his landmark 50th birthday:
“I’ll buy him some teeth bleach whitener! No, I’m joking, I shall have to think about it.”
