Your Metabolism- Is It Functioning Properly?

There have been many diet gurus over the years who have suggested doing a variety of things to speed up the body’s metabolic rate in order to prompt weight loss. The trouble is that sometimes metabolism is not the only issue.

There are key signs that your metabolism is not working correctly or that it is sluggish. To determine whether or not your metabolism is functioning the way it should be it is important to look a several key factors. The first thing to evaluate is how you feel throughout the day. Are you experiencing periods of extreme tiredness or fatigue throughout the day? Do you find yourself running out of energy and having to eat ever few hours in order to stay alert?

These are only a couple of the things that could point to an issue with your metabolism. If you find that you are cranky after periods of not eating for a couple of hours then your blood sugar could be an issue. One of the worst things you can do for your metabolism is to skip meals, especially in the morning.

There is an old adage that you should eat like a king for breakfast, a prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner. This is true because your body burns your breakfast and lunch much quicker than your dinner. If you are to skip breakfast and eat a heavy lunch or dinner there could be several adverse effects but the worst is that you could slow your metabolism.

If you feel that you are having issues with your metabolism, either that it is burning calories too fast or too slow, then the best thing to do is consult with a physician to have some lab work done. Often, metabolic issues can be corrected through a change in diet and exercise habits.
